HONEY’S SUPERPOWER

ou may be familiar with honey as a cough remedy—but this liquid gold, which comes from a tree in New Zealand and Australia, has been used for its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties to help heal wounds for more than 2,000 years. Some holistic practitioners recommend using Manuka honey for hard-to-heal wounds and to prevent infection. It may be added to the medicine cabinet as a similar option to over-thecounter antibiotic ointments (though if the wound does not improve, or gets worse, medical attention should be procured right away). Apply this special honey—marked for medical use—to the affected area, or try ointment or Manuka honey–infused bandages from First Honey for a convenient alternative. You can discover Manuka honey locally through Whole Foods and The Vitamin Shoppe. Let the natural healing begin.
