WONDER IN THE WILLAPA

Nestled off the coast of southwest Washington is an abundance of wildlife, tidal waterways and lush forests awaiting those who seek natural splendor and beauty. The protected inlet of Willapa Bay is home to a diverse array of plant and animal species; oysters, Chinook salmon, blue herons, bald eagles, migratory shorebirds and Roosevelt elk are among some of the frequent visitors to the area, and they thrive amid towering Douglas fir, hemlock and western red cedar. Established in 1937, the National Willapa Wildlife Refuge has been dedicated to preserving the many micro-ecosystems and habitats that support more than 200 bird species annually around the estuary.
