AWARDS

While on a podcast recently, I addressed the subject of the future of awards in amateur radio, and the topic stirred up a very good conversation. I have been writing the “Awards” column for more than six months and one of the questions that is always asked is, “what awards are still sought after?” I usually mention the many options afforded to hams via CQ and the ARRL and that seemed to engender many more responses and comments. However, the views and opinions of hams are mixed and many hams have a complete lack of interest in pursuing awards.

This month, I would> on your thoughts on this topic and I will share those responses in an upcoming “Awards” column as a “Part 2.” To keep an even playing field, in this issue I will cover only the ARRL’s DXCC Award, which has been available for a very long time, but this could apply to any award program.
