EmComm – An Important Facet of Ham Radio

Emergency communications (Em-Comm) is one of the Amateur Radio Service’s many facets. To be sure, EmComm may be one of the most important facets and to highlight this important role, every October’s CQ focuses on various aspects of Em-Comm. In fact, according to the FCC’s (Federal Communications Commission) Part 97 rules, one of the primary reasons for the existence of the Amateur Radio Service is to provide emergency communications.

Many radio amateurs make EmComm their primary radio interest. These hams dedicate their time and equipment primarily toward EmComm preparation. EmComm operators are as enthusiastic and passionate as radio amateurs who have dedicated their interest in pursuing other ham radio facets.

But what assistance can the casual ham or newly-minted radio amateur offer
