Class 321 disposals put on hold

EVERSHOLT demonstrator No. 321334 undertook its first outing since its rebuild as a ‘Swift Express Freight’ EMU on August 4, when it ran from Doncaster West Yard to Wolverton, travelling via the ECML and North London incline to join the WCML at Primrose Hill. The conversion of the unit has been carried out in conjunction with Ricardo Rail, with the work being undertaken at Wabtec, Doncaster.

SCRAPPING PAUSED

As further similar conversions are possible, depending on the level of interest generated, Eversholt has paused further disposals of its Class 321 fleet. During the first few months of 2021, some 30 sets were sent for scrap, but since then, another 14 have been placed in store at Gascoigne Wood and Worksop. A further 26 sets, which are not PRM compliant, will be stopped before the end of the year, with the rest of the Greater Anglia sets due to be removed from use in 2022 following the introduction
