THEATRE: DIANA: THE MUSICAL

Well, just won another consignment of Emmys for last year’s fourth season, but the penultimate fifth series isn’t out until next year, with production having started in the UK in July. Still, Netflix has another royal offering, which was recorded on Broadway in an audience-less theatre last September. The show was forced to close in March 2020 after the nine preview performances as a result of the pandemic. It’s due to reopen in November. Featuring Jeanna de Waal in the title role, the show was written by Joe DiPietro and David Bryan who were behind the Tony Award-winning southern rock’n’roll production and a. Bryan has also long been the keyboard player in Bon Jovi, so is very familiar with the 1980s in which much of Diana’s story is set. One might also expect that the show’s Prince Charles will give love a bad name.
