Scale SLAMMERS
Art (ärt): noun: something that is created with imagination and skill that incites emotion and excites the viewer. Scale models are a pure 3D art form, specially crafted with details and design that almost rival their 1:1 scale counterparts. A steady hand, keen eye for detail, and unrivalled passion for authenticity and realism are what spurs Marc Bolan Dean with this art form. These 1:24 scale creations are the result of a fusion of creativity, and a passion for doorslammer drag cars. Scratch-built chassis, chopped bodies, and fully wired cockpits and engines are not the normal route taken by many scale modellers. Marc’s miniature creations are just like the real deal … only 24 times smaller.
NZV8: How and when were you first introduced to cars?
Marc: I was born into the car scene through my dad who had cars, and was hot rodding cars his whole life. He took me to Thunder Park from the ’80s all the way up until it closed, so I have always been into cars, but especially drag cars.
So it was drag cars that first got you hooked?
Definitely the drag cars and hot rods for sure. Also a movie made by Jackson Brothers, called The Shoebox Dream. It had a big part to play in me getting hooked on door cars, and then it has evolved from there.
