It was 2011 when two Aussie TV heavyweights on business in the South of France – FOXTEL Executive Director Brian Walsh and Ian Hogg, the then-CEO of production company Fremantle – first discussed the possibility of a modern-day take on iconic 1980s Australian drama Prisoner.

In September of that year, a handful of executives and crew members close to the project met in secret, exploring what exactly the resulting series, Wentworth, would be – the prime focus being to look at each main character and how they could be different to their Prisoner counterpart.
