KIWI EMMY WINNER’S CROWNING GLORY

Christchurch-born director Jessica Hobbs says winning an Emmy for her work on The Crown was “exhilarating and slightly terrifying”.

The filmmaker – a sister to Kiwi acting talents Rebecca, Chris and Katrina – was recognised for her work on the final episode of the Netflix show’s last season, which showed Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s split.

After accepting her trophy from America Ferrera and a long speechless moment, Jessica, 54, said, “Not a lot of women have won this award, so I feel like I’m standing on the shoulders of some really extraordinary people. I’m grateful for the path that they led.”

She also made special mention of her mother, longtime local filmmaker Aileen O’Sullivan, saying, “I’d particularly like to pay tribute to my mum, who, at 77, is still directing.”
