Create a ‘kill switch’ in Windows 10

What you need: Windows 10 Time required: 30 minutes

A ‘kill switch’ may sound extreme and sinister, but it could prove a lifesaver if you notice something suspicious happening on your computer. It’s not an official Windows term - it’s far too apocalyptic for Microsoft - but many VPNs use the expression to mean taking you offline when your encrypted connection to a server is interrupted. This ensures you’re not left unprotected online where you could be at the mercy of hackers.

The same method works on Windows computers. If you think your PC is under attack, trigger a kill switch to sever your connection instantly. It’s the ultimate form of defence when malware starts downloading itself to your machine, or if your desktop is overwhelmed by pop-up adverts.
