Editor’s Letter
in a lockdown, did you notice? And now that we’re out again, at the other side, it’s suddenly mid-September and the peak of the show season – our National Exhibition – is only three weeks away. Truth is, the with its now-traditional “National Special” issue. Normally, for this, I’d have devoted countless fulfilling hours to research into the heritage of the National and composing penportraits of the great bygone exhibitions, for us all to relive. This year there hasn’t been time (but roll on next year.) Meanwhile, it’s still wonderful to see the organisers, sponsors, supporting advertisers and others express their solidarity here. Thank you to them all and I hope this week’s paper helps to get you in the mood! ■ Mr Sturgeon’s letter (left) is among several messages I’ve had commending Donald Skinner-Reid’s assessment recently of the new restrictions on “exporting” stock. Donald’s article has been appreciated, even though its message is clarifying rather than cheery! There’s one point I feel I must reiterate. Mr Sturgeon refers to “the new DEFRA rules and regulations that have killed off bird lovers bringing back stock from Europe”.
