THE VOYEURS

The list of fascinatingly bad films based on the great Rear Window continues to grow, what with Netflix’s recent The Woman in the Window and now this eventually preposterous tale of spying on the neighbours who are just too sexy for their curtains.

Newly ensconced in a loft in Downtown Montreal, nice and ) and Thomas (Justice Smith) find themselves entertained by the well-lit sex lives of photographer Seb (Ben Hardy), his girlfriend Margot (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and other women in the building opposite. Soon, Pippa is breaking out the binoculars at all hours while making friends with Margot, who has turned up as a client at her optometrist practice. Of course, all is not what it seems and near the midway point there’s a severe departure from plausibility that leads to a hilariously unhinged finale. Director-writer Michael Mohan clearly has a thing for the tawdry 1980s and 1990s erotic thrillers of Hitchcock copyists Brian De Palma and Joe Eszterhas.
