It’s hard to believe that ‘A House Through Time’ (AHTT) is only on series 4, so much has it become must-watch annual viewing for history fans of all kinds – most certainly including family historians of course. After all, getting a sense for the places where our ancestors lived, and the lifestyles they enjoyed or endured, is central to our understanding the lives they once led.

But how does it all come about – how is the choice made as to which house to feature in the series?
