To say that Teide is on the island of Tenerife is perhaps a misnomer. Teide is the island of Tenerife – a massive volcano that rose out of the sea a few million years ago, and which is still active today. With a summit at 3,715m it’s the highest point in Spain, and no matter where you stand on Tenerife, if you face inland you’ll be looking up at the third-highest volcano in the world (measured from the ocean floor, as they are).
