THE SOLO MOTORCYCLIST is likely to spend hours meditating under his helmet as the odometer scrolls on. Two or three existential questions can be solved on a 150 kilometre long straight line. And there are many in Australia for instance. Not a soul on the horizon, just red laterite tracks as far as the eye can see and your thoughts wandering. But on my long journey, one question often came up: “Are you travelling alone?” Yes, alone, but not in solitude.
