COMBATING PLASTIC POLLUTION WITH WASHED AND FOUND OWNER VIKI STIFF
“I collected as much plastic as I could and brought it home.”
I started my business after a family holiday – there was so much plastic on the beach. It was everywhere; in, so being able to physically do something with my hands whilst making a difference to a beach is the best feeling. I started to develop different ways of using the plastic to create structures and jewellery, by combining it with a bio resin. I realised the way light reflects through the resin works best with organic shapes. This also makes them . They look amazing when held under water. At first, it’s hard to tell what each piece is made from because the colours merge into one another but when you look closely you can see exactly what’s inside. Each design includes a handful of plastic and people are often shocked at the pictures on my Instagram showing how they started out. So much needs to be done to . The thought of having a team of collectors dotted round the coast doing beach cleans and making more of an impact would be amazing. Being able to transform the crumbliest of perished plastic into a gorgeous necklace or bangle is so rewarding. I love that my jewellery shows just how it can be used again and given a completely different life.
