SEED production is a plant’s way of continuing the species and, because it usually involves both a male and female to create fertile seed, it is known as sexual reproduction (as opposed to asexual, such as taking cuttings). The mixing of genetic material results in variation, so the outcome cannot be predicted unless the first-generation cross of two parents gives a uniform outcome (known as F1 seed).
