‘We wanted to give the children space and we wanted them to live in nature’

When Covid-19 restrictions prevented Dawson’s Creek actor James Van Der Beek and his wife, Kimberly, from renewing vows for their tenth wedding anniversary last August, they decided to celebrate instead with a trip. Inspired by dreams that Kimberly was having about living in Texas, they visited Austin, the state capital. The getaway was transformative to say the least. Fast forward a year to their 11th anniversary and the couple have traded their California lifestyle for a 36-acre property in Texas’s Hill Country, where they live with their daughters Olivia, ten, Annabel, seven, Emilia, five, Gwendolyn, three, and son Joshua, nine.

DREAM COME TRUE

It’s not often that an in-demand actor like James, who attained teen-idol status in the late 1990s as deep-thinking high school student Dawson Leery and went on to win acclaim in and , leaves Los Angeles.
