FREEHAND CURVES
Last month, we looked at how to use fusible web and gathering over card to create circles, quadrants and curves for use in improvisational work. This month, we will continue our exploration of curves by learning how to sew sinuous seams that curve and undulate. When freehand cutting and sewing these types of seams, no two designs will be quite the same, which is great if you enjoy spontaneity in your work. Being able to sew a line that curves and undulates is a useful skill, as it allows you to bring interest to the simplest of designs. shows three pieces of fabric sewn together with straight seams. However, when sewn together with curvy seams, as in , a more interesting look is created. Curved piecing is also useful as a background to appliqué designs.
