His crimes shocked the nation in the 80s, and when Colin Pitchfork was jailed in 1988 after raping and strangling two 15-year-olds in Leicestershire in 1983 and 1986, the streets felt a safer place. He was just 22 when he left his baby son sleeping in the back of his car while he raped and murdered schoolgirl Lynda Mann.
