Self-effacingly, artistic director James MacMillan has scheduled none of his own music in this year’s East Ayrshire festival, but he joins saxophonist Christian Forshaw for a masterclass in improvisation. Pianists Steven Osborne and Paul Lewis smuggle Stravinsky into a delectable French duo confection, the Tenebrae choir ponders penitence, and the Hebrides Ensemble is backing Britten.
