James Heidegger ( – ) was a Swiss who came to England in 1708 without a farthing, he claimed, and made a) of Heidegger after the portrait by van Loo. Here, it was attributed to Christian Friedrich Zincke (1683/4–1767), although, in the past, Nathaniel Hone has been suggested by the National Portrait Gallery. It was estimated to £1,500 and sold for £3,900; it would be pleasing if the buyer was the current owner of the house.
