Did you know that the tompot blenny is attracted to yellow? This attraction is so great that if ever you are looking to specifically catch one of these grumpy-looking fish, as an ever-increasing number of avid species hunters are, then your chance of success will be enhanced if you use lead weights that are painted yellow.

That’s not all. Those anglers in the know, anglers such as Colin Orme-Thomas, ensure that they include a small bead positioned immediately above the hook when they tie their rigs, but not just any old bead. Colin’s preferred beads are of a very specific size and shade of yellow. They are sold for fly-tying and can only be sourced in Ireland. The inclusion of one or two of these tiny, pin-head sized beads will further increase the odds of catching the elusive tompot
