PRINCE PHILIP: A CELEBRATION, UNTIL 31 OCTOBER

A special display at Holyrood House explores the late Prince Philip’s early life and naval career, his role as consort, and his support for the sovereign at home and overseas. The display also focuses on the prince’s patronages and associations, including sport, science and industry, conservation and the environment, and encouraging younger generations.

HMY Britannia, also known as the Royal Yacht Britannia, was built in the Clydebank shipyard and launched by the queen in 1953. Prince Philip took a keen interest and active role in the technical aspects of Britannia, drawing on his own practical naval experience. The display includes two of
