Challenging Chital

GAME writers habitually describe chital, also called axis or spotted deer, as the prettiest of all the deer species. Subjective perhaps, but when observed up close in the Australian bush, it is challenging to argue with that judgement. From my experience, I am confident to say that this species is not only attractive on the hoof, but presents beautifully on the plate and palate. They are a species worthy of ethical standards and effort. Like any other game, hunters will prove successful if they get to know the animal’s range, its appearance, traits, habits and the techniques and equipment best used in harvesting.
