We are introduced to boat life and boating families from medieval times onwards – and as author Julian Dutton explains, there are several known unbroken lines of boat families from the Middle Ages onwards, whose boating connections stretch right through to the present day; the roles may have changed over the years but the link with boats and water has remained.
