As I discussed in the previous issue, hydraulic discs brakes are usually fairly simple: pulling in the lever at your handlebars pumps fluid down a brake line to squeeze the brake pads inside your calipers against the discs, generating friction and heat, causing the wheel’s rotation to slow and stop.
The quality of everything in the system can affect braking performance — from how well you can grip that lever to how clean your fluid is to what compound is in the pads
