The First Stockton National Gold Bank Notes are Reunited

The hardcore national bank network was blown away when the top note from the first sheet of $5s from The First National Gold Bank of Stockton, charter 2077, was offered in a February 9, 1978 Bowers & Ruddy sale. Doug Corrigan, a prominent, astute and aggressive California collector stepped up to the plate and paid $7,000 for it, a significant sum for a gold bank note in those days.

The prize that he won had full top selvage. Hand written in pencil on the back was: A 1873 H. Lloyd
