ROD RENOS
There are hundreds of old fibreglass rods sitting under houses and in backyard sheds right across Australia. Many are covered in dust and cobwebs, slowly breaking down. Sadly, their crumbling grips, broken runners and rotted bindings make using these relics impossible. Eventually many end up at the tip after the house is sold or the owner passes away.
While most models are obsolete, fibreglass rods are still used for certain applications. These include fly casting, luderick angling and beach fishing. These rods are often slightly heavier (and tougher!) than their graphite equivalents but their “action” is slower and perfect for these niche applications. I know a few anglers who have never upgraded their fibreglass rods and still get great pleasure from using them.
