Whereas a decade ago bike manufacturers centred their marketing campaigns on weight (or lack of it), now the primary focus is on aerodynamics. It’s been shown that the rider’s body creates around 80 per cent of drag when riding through the air, after all, so it stands to reason that positional tweaks, clothing choice and gear selection will boost both a rider’s aerodynamics and speed.
And the good news is that becoming aero isn’t the preserve of the elite. In fact, slower cyclists actually benefit more from aerodynamics than the pro riders. The reason is two-fold.
