Music to my ears

Lucy Crowe Soprano

I like to listen to fellow artists, colleagues and friends that I’ve worked with, just to hear how they’re getting on and feel proud of them. I love mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey’s voice; it has such a dark-chocolate colour, and she plays with it so much. I love how she can be so dramatic and show real vulnerability at the same time – there’s a real contrast in her artistry. Her new release, Tiranno, is brilliant (see review, p78).

A few months back I heard a voice on BBC Radio 3 and thought ‘who is that?!’album. I find it magical; her voice just comes out of nowhere, really beautifully resounding out of the orchestra. It’s very moving and I find her singing really honest. I first met her when we did the Britten-Pears course together in our early 20s.
