ecent research into national anthems led to me revisiting various works in which they feature one way or another. This included the Philharmonia and Riccardo Muti’s recording of (right) -quoting Overture, based on Goethe’s tale of love during the French Revolutionary Wars. Schumann weaves the anthem into this charming work with brilliant ingenuity.
