Like so many of us, Brett Chalkley’s love affair with Volkswagens started at an early age. “A friend had a Beetle that we used to tinker with after I left school and on the strength of that I decided I wanted a Camper,” he remembers. “I saw one for sale parked nearby, went to the bank, got out a loan and bought it.” Would you be terribly surprised to learn that the Camper Brett bought in 1992 was awful? “It was dangerous, although I only paid £1000 for it. That said, it gave us a lot of good times and happy memories and I sold it a year later for £600. It was a 1964 Devon.” Oh well, we all make mistakes. CPG 893B – are you still out there somewhere?
