Impressively, many British interiors companies have not only survived but thrived over the past few years, despite the challenges posed by Brexit and Covid. Some pivoted to new processes or markets, others significantly reduced their environmental impact, and all epitomise the creativity, inventiveness and strength of Britain’s world-envied design, manufacturing and craft skills.

Take AC Beck, recent recipient of Her Majesty The Queen’s Royal Warrant. A fourth-generation family firm established in 1953 by Aubrey Cecil Beck (who cycled to work with a ladder strapped to his bicycle and paint pots hanging from the handlebars), it is now a leading painting, decorating and renovation specialist. Based in Berkshire, it has a pedigree that includes Royal households such as Kensington Palace and Windsor Castle. “What makes us special is quality decorating with a human face,” says managing director Stephen Beck, “offering a friendly, approachable, professional service. Also, we are always looking to push the boundaries of the industry and are presently involved in the reduction of waste on sites and improving efficiencies through the use of robots.”
