n the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq, refugee camps pepper the landscape. Domiz 1, one of the largest settlements, houses more than 30,000 residents in concrete and tented shelters that stretch grey and grim as far as the eye can see. Tens of thousands more refugees – predominantly escaping war in Syria or internally displaced within Iraq by the brutal invasion of Isis – are living in similar conditions.
