My fascination with carnivorous plants began in the 1970s as a child – my father, who had intended to come home with flowers for my mother, was astonished to find Venus flytraps in the shop and gifted one of those instead. They’ve been a constant source of beauty, intrigue and pleasure ever since.
Lots of plant-lovers are similarly drawn to something a little different, perhaps a tropical plant or a rare species. But often, this attraction is limited to curiosity, as ‘unusual’ plants seem difficult to grow, requiring expert know-how and specialist beasties that ‘eat’ live food.
