My project

Motorhoming is better than flying but trundling around in a 3.5-tonne truck still isn’t good for the planet. As some people carbon offset their flights, I wondered how easy would it be to carbon offset our motorhome trips.

Carbon offsetting, at its simplest, means calculating how much carbon dioxide is emitted by a certain activity, like driving your motorhome, and then funding one or more projects designed to reduce carbon emissions by the same amount, thereby ‘cancelling out’ the effect of your emissions. You can do it by buying a certificate off the internet, but I wanted to dig a bit deeper to understand how it works.
