THE NEW ARRIVAL

Twenty years after the debut of the original Boxster, Porsche unveiled its new mid-engined roadster in January 2016. Initially referred to as the 982 (corresponding with the later 992-generation 911), the updated droptop was soon being promoted as the 718, a marketing move designed to evoke memories of the motorsport-dominating 718 race cars built between 1957 and 1962 – lightweight racing machines designed to outpace competition packing bigger, more powerful engines. Shots fired, 911. Shots fired.
