CODY LIND IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF FAMILY
CODY LIND HAS FOLLOWED IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF his grandfather Dr. Robert Lind and his father, Paul Lind, for almost his entire life.
When Cody was boy, he would join his grandfather in the family’s camper parked at the ski resort in Olympic Valley, California, the night before the Western States Endurance Run. The 369 runners who were sleeping fitfully in their beds probably didn’t realize it, but their presence in Olympic Valley was spawned, in one form or another, from some of the groundbreaking medical research of Cody’s grandfather Dr. Robert Lind – the first medical director for Western States. Medical research provided the scientific reasoning – some of the first of its kind in human performance, dating to the early 1980s – why the human body could indeed survive running 100 miles. But it was Dr. Lind’s ever-present smile and his patient voice that the runners of Western States often sought out. In just a few words, Dr. Lind would always calm them.
