Get away for... THE WEEKEND!
Devon is delightful and, with a week’s walking on the north coast already under our belts (see last month), we headed to the south of the county to enjoy the beaches and headlands – without having to hike up and down them!
Our journey started in morning mist, which dissipated into brilliant sunshine revealing the dramatic expanse of the large and moody Dartmoor National Park, the setting for Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Hound of the Baskervilles. Even in sunshine, the moor looked slightly forbidding.
As we stopped for lunch in Chagford, husband, Barry, was congratulated by a couple of locals and the on-duty traffic warden for his perfect parking in the town’s small (but adequate) car park.
No worries for us about getting a parking ticket there then!
Chagford is pleasant: there’s an attractive fifteenth century church, antique shops to browse and galleries selling locally made arts and crafts. We checked out the long-established James Bowden & Son Hardware & Moorland
