Chasing Dax COCODONA 250

This point-to-point 255-mile race takes runners through the towns of Black Canyon City, Crown King, Prescott, Jerome, Clarkdale, Sedona and Flagstaff in what can only be described as a life-changing test of endurance. Cutoff is 125 hours for all runners. Surface includes 43% singletrack, 49% doubletrack and 8% pavement.

OF ALL THE MOMENTS IN A RACE AS EPIC AS THE COCODONA 250, THE CHASE TO CATCH DAX HOCK WILL GO DOWN AS ONE OF THE MOST MEMORABLE IN MY ULTRARUNNING CAREER.

As we started toward the Bradshaws in Black Canyon City, everything was wonderful. Smiles and laughter were common early in the race until the heat and carnage set in. As the Arizona warmth started to take hold of the competitors, one by one we started to split apart and some of them I never saw again. Dax, on the other hand, showed amazing resilience early on.
