Not to be confused with last fall’s Ultraventure Pro, this update to Topo Athletic’s most popular trail model has changes to the top and bottom, with the midsole composition and geometry in-between, largely unchanged. The upper sports fewer overlays than the previous version, with a new engineered mesh upper that is highly breathable and dries quickly, but is also subject to grit intrusion on sandy desert trails. Fit is secure with a TPU heel counter and molded foam collar in the rearfoot, and a microfiber belt in the midfoot, while the anatomic toe box allows for full foot splay and accommodates swelling with higher mileage.

A three-piece, multi-density EVA midsole provides light guidance with a soft landing zone in the heel, a denser medial arch segment and increased firmness in the forefoot for propulsion. Traction comes from a new full-length Vibram XS Trek EVO that has outstanding durability and aggressive 4mm lugging.
