Summers Back Then

I remember the splendor of former years, when the last day of school changed my whole milieu. I recall only one summer that our family of seven made an out-of-town trip, and that was from the Delta flatlands to the hills of Arkansas where an aged aunt lived. All other times we stayed at home and made delightful memories.
Of course, living on a farm back in the 1940s, there were fitting chores for us kids, like pumping water into the trough for the mules and cow, pouring food in the pigs’ eating place quickly
