guess we can all remember sports days at school, a time when lessons stopped in the classroom and the day was spent getting dirty on the field. Not everyone liked these days — at least, not for the sport anyway. Maurie Barrington, a North Canterbury local, can remember those days, and, according to him, he disliked rugby and soccer. So, while his brothers played every Wednesday, he would bunk off school to head down to the local motorcycle shop. From those early years, Maurie has developed a passion for bikes and cars, and he fondly recalls racing stock cars at Prebbleton on the outskirts of Christchurch.
