UNSUNG ICONS: TIN SOLDIERS

It is difficult to overstate how ubiquitous tin once was in Australian homes. We made our gutters out of it, and our toys. It was literally pressed into service as decorative ceiling motifs and as a roof. There are still fewer pleasures greater than having one between you and rain.

So beloved was tin that it slid into our vernacular and remains there despite having been surpassed
