THE CAR TRAVELLED A SIMILAR ROAD TO the motorbike, being the ‘must have device’ for the lucky middle classes at first – like a second home or Chelsea tractors are now. Gradually basic rules of economics intervened, the car followed the bike and dropped, in just a few decades, from leading, innovative machine to be seen in, yet again, to the working Joe’s (and Jolene’s) mode of gettin’ around.
