SERIOUS DEFENSIVE REVOLVER SKILLS

The revolver has been around since the mid 1800s, and the double-action revolver has been popular since the early 1900s. Historically, the double-action revolver dominated police and civilian use from the early 1900s to the 1980s, and up to the time when the semi-auto pistol eclipsed the modern-day double action revolver as a tool for self-defense. The semi-auto pistol has many things going for it, with two of the most popular reasons being it’s easier to shoot accurately and has a higher capacity.

But the revolver isn’t dead.

Popularity of the double-action revolver for civilian self-defense has never been greater, not on a percentage basis (the vast majority of people use semiautos), but because there has been an exploding growth in the concealed-carry market, with those new shooters buying up all of the revolvers manufacturers can produce. As an aside, if I had to live the rest of my life with only one handgun, it’d be a double-action .357 Smith & Wesson 2.5-inch Model 19.
