Performing seals!

And so on with part two of my engine overhaul. After the engine was in bits it was time to assess what I had and what I would need.

I knew that the balancer chain was worn out, but I shall look at this separately. I had already ordered a pattern gasket set but would need all the oil seals which would be simple enough as they all seemed to be standard sizes.

You might remember that I previously found that no oil-filter had been fitted, so what would be the effect of this? I can show you: take a look at . This is the screen at the bottom of the engine where the oil is coarsely filtered before being picked up by the return pump on its way back to the tank. Note the metal shavings. Underneath there was as there were also bits of gasket material and what appeared to be rounded particles of quartz-like material. These were the larger particles which had been trapped and removed from circulation, but what about the smaller ones which should have been stopped by the filter?
