What Lies Beneath the Paint

Have you ever wondered why high-end, detailed and often very collectable locomotives and, more rarely, rolling stock are made from brass? As a modelling medium, brass (in sheet, shapes and as wire) has some very useful qualities and remains readily available from hobby retailers.
