To walk into Adrienne Winkelmann’s Auckland design room is to walk into a wonder emporium of fabric and fashion history. Over 40 years in business, the eponymous designer has collected thousands of bolts of cloth – from cobalt blues to tonal tartan – and tucked them here, above the boutiques of O’Connell Street. Say you’re in the mood for a certain houndstooth pattern, and she’ll know exactly where it’s hiding along the walls stacked with every colour and print you could imagine.
